Local SEO and Google Business Profile.

Getting found by people searching for what you do, nearby.

Local SEO is how you get found by people searching in your area, and for many businesses it converts better than anything else because the intent is immediate. The work covers your Google Business Profile, consistent business details across the web, location pages that are genuinely useful, and handling reviews honestly. For businesses serving Brecon, Powys and mid Wales in particular, local visibility is often the highest-return search work available, and a lot of it you can verify yourself in an afternoon.

A map search for local businesses open on a phone

How do I check my local visibility right now?

Search your main service plus your town, on your phone, ideally not logged in.

Are you in the map results? Is your profile complete, with correct hours, photos and services listed? Are your competitors' profiles better filled in than yours?

That two-minute check tells you more than most paid audits, and everything it reveals is fixable without spending anything.

What actually moves local rankings?

A complete, active Google Business Profile does most of the heavy lifting: correct categories, real photos, services listed, hours accurate, and posts occasionally.

After that: consistent name, address and phone details wherever you appear online, genuine reviews arriving steadily, and a website with clear local relevance.

It is unglamorous maintenance rather than clever tactics, which is precisely why so many competitors neglect it.

Do I need location pages for every town?

Only where you genuinely serve them and have something real to say.

Fifty near-identical pages with the town name swapped is a well-known tactic and search engines have been discounting it for years. It looks like effort and delivers very little.

A smaller set of genuinely useful pages for the areas you actually work in performs better and does not risk your credibility.

Questions people ask us

How do I get more reviews without breaking the rules?
Ask, promptly and personally, at the moment someone is happiest with your work. A short message with a direct link removes the friction that stops most people. What you cannot do is incentivise reviews, filter out unhappy customers before asking, or write them yourself, all of which can get a profile penalised and are obvious to customers anyway. Steady genuine reviews beat a sudden burst, which tends to look exactly as suspicious as it is.
What if I have no premises and work from home?
You can still rank locally by setting your profile as a service-area business and hiding your address, which is a standard option and does not disadvantage you. Plenty of trades and consultants run this way, including ours. What matters is that your service area is honest and your details are consistent everywhere. Listing a fake office address to appear in a more valuable area is a common trick and a fast route to losing the profile entirely.
Is local SEO enough on its own?
For many local service businesses, honestly, yes, at least to start with. If your customers are within thirty miles and search with immediate intent, local visibility plus a clear site can be the whole marketing strategy. Broader search work earns its place when you sell nationally, compete on specialist terms, or want to be found before someone is ready to buy. We will tell you on the call which of those you actually are.
